Region: As of May, 2011, Jim ceased registering new candidates and should be contacted directly by former candidates wishing to renew registration so that they might be transferred to another Associate.

A Search Associate since 1997 and President from 2009 to 2013, Jim ceased registering candidates in 2011 in order to concentrate on consulting with school boards on Head searches, governance issues and strategic/long term financial planning.

A graduate of Hillsdale College (Michigan), he earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University in 1973 and immediately secured the post of Principal at the Stavanger American School in Norway. Jim went on to a similar position at Cairo American College (Egypt) for four years before heading his own school in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 1978 to 1982. Two-year assignments as Head of School in Sri Lanka and Zambia followed.

In 1986, Mr. Ambrose became Superintendent of the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, UAE, and oversaw the addition of a high school, accreditation and extensive growth following the First Gulf War. He left in 1994 to head the United Nations International School of Hanoi (Vietnam) and was honored in 1997 as "Superintendent of the Year" by AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Education).

Mr. Ambrose has become well-known for his work in school governance and produced four videos for the purpose, sponsored by the Overseas Schools Advisory Committee and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Jim also contributed to the NAIS International School Trustee Handbook. He has been a member of the governing boards for the Near East/South Asian Council of Overseas Schools (NESA), the International Educator (TIE), and the Commission of Elementary Schools, Middle States Association (CES-MSA). In addition, Jim has been a featured speaker at many professional conferences, taught courses for the PTC (Principals Training Center) and AISH (Academy for International Heads) and has acted as a consultant for dozens of international schools. His articles regularly appear in numerous publications.

Candidates who were previously registered with Jim and who want to reregister should email him and await further instructions: they should not complete a new application form.
