ESSENTIAL NOTICE TO ALL CANDIDATES
Many candidates ask about whether they should contact a school concerning
an existing position or a hoped-for position. Recruiters and school administrators tend to be very busy, and they receive a large number of e-mail inquiries. If you do choose to contact a school, however, our advice is to send a letter by e-mail (the subject line of e-mail to read, Search Candidate - your subject, i.e. Mathematics) or regular mail
to the school administration which will get you OUT of the pile of 200 such letters and INTO the smaller pile of people who are being seriously considered. To accomplish
this, we suggest that you use the letter below as your guide. IF YOU DO SEND AN E-MAIL TO A SCHOOL OR TO A RECRUITER, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU SIMULTANEOUSLY SEND A COPY TO YOUR ASSOCIATE (WHICH WILL AUTOMATICALLY CONTAIN THE E-MAIL ADDRESS OF ALL RECIPIENTS). THIS WILL MAKE IT EASY FOR YOUR ASSOCIATE TO FOLLOW UP--AS APPROPRIATE--WITH A SUPPORTIVE E-MAIL MESSAGE TO THE RECRUITER.

Dear Dr. Fudd,
My name is Sophie Clutch, and my husband Ichabod and I are registered with
Search Associates through (Insert name of your Associate). I am writing to
express a keen interest in a (physics position), which I note you have
listed as vacant. ( Optional - We hope that you might also have a vacant
position for which my hushand Ichabod, who teaches ........ , could be
considered; my own interest, however, would not necessarily be conditional on this.)
Briefly, our backgrounds are as follows:
I have an B.A.in physics from (........ University) and an M.A. in Science
Education from (.........College). I have three years of teaching experience in Lincoln High School in Bangor, Maine, and have also taught
for three years at the International School of Bangkok. I have taught both
Chemistry and AP physics, and can also teach IB physics as the laws of
physics are constant no matter what the curriculum.
Ichabod teaches (...............) and has had two years of teaching
experience in U.S. public schools as well as three
years in Bangkok. He has a B.A. in history from (........University) and an M. A. in Elementary Education from (.........University) .
We are both currently teaching at the Milton School
in Massachussetts. We plan to attend the Search Associates recruitment fairs in London and in Bethesda and would be pleased to interview with you if you are attending one of these fairs. (Optional: If we are not able to meet at any of the approaching fairs at which you will be recruiting this year, but we would still be interested in being considered if this would be possible - perhaps we could meet elsewhere or have a telephone interview instead?)
